Excerpt

Molly entered the sliding doors and stood by the opposite wall, holding onto a support pole. I followed, placing one hand on the small of her back with the other above us on the railing hanging from the ceiling facing her, knowing most women enjoyed my proximity.

A slight tremor ran through Molly.

The motion reverberated along my hand. Bingo. I smiled.

She stared out the window.

Dammit! Had I misinterpreted her reaction? Was she uncomfortable? Embarrassed? “Is this
okay?” I raised a brow, prepared to step away if I needed to.

“Mmm-hmm.” Molly pinched her lips in a tight line and held her breath.

With any luck, that meant the physical attraction I was experiencing was mutual. I increased
the pressure of my hand on Molly’s back.

She swallowed.

Molly had to be a good nine inches shorter than my five foot eleven. The height difference,
combined with her petite frame, caused a protective urge to wash over me. I stepped closer.

She continued to gaze out the window and pinched her lips together.

A warmth spread through my body, accompanying the unrelenting energy flowing between
she and I. Taking a step, I eradicated the space between us.

Molly gasped.

Unexpected bolts of desire shot through me, and I gripped the ceiling support tighter. The
doors to the train closed, lurching into motion.

Molly stumbled.

I braced a hand on her back and, on instinct, pulled her back against my chest to steady her
balance.

As her head tilted, she stared, her lips parted and eyes wide.

I dropped my gaze to Molly’s mouth, and I had the sudden urge to kiss her, but I resisted. This arrangement wasn’t about what my body wanted; her book was what mattered. So, instead, I leaned down, nuzzling into her hair, close to her ear. “I’ve got you.”

Molly choked out a laugh. Placing a hand on my chest, curling her fingers against my
sternum, she nodded. “Yeah, you do.”

I pulled back, chuckling low and deep, and cocked an eyebrow.

She smacked my pec and averted her gaze. “Stop. You can’t make me combust on the first
date.”

I flashed her a devilish smile, lightning coursing through my veins. She was attracted to me. “Challenge accepted.” This could be fun.

Molly leaned in and rested her forehead against my chest. “You’re good.”

“I try.” She had no idea what was coming.
